Breast problems during pregnancy
During pregnancy, certain parts of your body will experience many changes. Whilst many natural developments will be physiological, hormonal changes play a significant role.
Changes within your breasts can be an early indicator of pregnancy. Increased levels of the hormone progesterone and milk duct growth may result in a tingling sensation or soreness (specifically the nipples) of the breast/breasts. The breast and the areola will begin to increase in size. Additionally, the nipple and areola may change colour, becoming darker throughout the pregnancy.
Weeks or even months before your baby is due, your breasts may begin milk production. Leaking of the nipples at this time is not uncommon. The substance produced is usually colostrum, which is the first milk produced in preparation for feeding your baby.
