What is Elocon Ointment?
Elocon Ointment is used for the treatment of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Mometasone Furoate 0.1% is the active ingredient in Elocon Ointment. Mometasone is a medium-strength corticosteroid that decreases itching, swelling, and redness of the skin.
How does Elocon Ointment work?
Elocon Ointment contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate 0.1%, a topical corticosteroid. Mometasone is often used to reduce the inflammation of the skin.
Skin inflammation occurs because of irritation or allergic reaction that causes the release of various substances in the skin, resulting in the widening of the blood vessels that cause irritation, swelling, reddening, and itch of the skin.
Mometasone acts within the skin cells to stop the release of the inflammatory substances, which, in turn, reduce the redness, swelling, and itching to prevent scratching that further irritates the skin.
What are the benefits of using Elocon Ointment?
The main benefit of using Elocon Ointment is the reduction of the redness, swelling, itching of the skin, which prevents scratching that further irritates the skin. Elocon Gel effective restores the normalcy in the skin.
How do I use Elocon Ointment?
Read first the patient information leaflet that comes with the medication package before you start using Elocon Ointment.
Apply only a thin film of the ointment to the affected areas of the skin once daily.
Treatment with this medication should be discontinued when the skin condition has been controlled. If no improvement is seen within two weeks of use of this medication, a reassessment of diagnosis may be needed.
Do not use Elocon Ointment with tight dressings unless ordered to do so by your doctor. Do not use this ointment in the diaper area or when using plastic pants because diapers and plastic pants constitute occlusive dressings.
Elocon Ointment is for topical use only. It is not for oral, ophthalmic. Or intravaginal administration.
Wash your hands thoroughly before and after using the ointment. Clean and dry first the affected areas of the skin before you apply Elocon Ointment. Do not wash or rinse the ointment off after applying it.

Elocon Ointment is to be applied thinly on the affected areas of the skin once daily.
Side effects & precautions
All medicines produce some unwanted side effects. Not every individual who uses Elocon Ointment experience the possible side effects.
The use of Elocon Ointment may result in itching, burning, or itching. These side effects do not last long. They disappear as the skin gets used to the medication. If the side effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor immediately.
Some individuals who used Elocon Ointment experienced thinning or discolouration of the skin, hair bumps, acne, or stretch march. Report to your doctor if you experience any of these.
Children who use Elocon Ointment may experience too much corticosteroid in their system because the medication is absorbed into the bloodstream. Too much corticosteroid will lead to weight loss, headache, unusual tiredness, swelling of the ankles or feet, or increased thirst or urination. Report to your doctor if any of these will occur.
A very serious allergic reaction to Elocon Ointment is very rare. However, seek emergency medical help right away if you experience the symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as trouble breathing, severe dizziness, and itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat.
Report to your doctor any other side effects that could be associated with your use of Elocon Ointment.
Before you start using Elocon Ointment, tell your doctor if you are allergic to mometasone, or if you have other forms of allergies. Elocon Ointment may have some inactive ingredients that could trigger an allergic reaction or other problems.
Share with your doctor your medical history before you start using this ointment.
Mometasone and other corticosteroids can make skin infections worse and difficult to treat. Report to your doctor if you have any skin infection so he could treat it properly.
Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsen after using
Elocon Ointment for more than two weeks.
During pregnancy, the use of mometasone furoate 0.1% should be performed only upon the order of a physician. Avoid using Elocon Ointment on large areas of the skin or over a prolonged period of time. There is inadequate evidence of its safety in human pregnancy.
It is not known whether the use of corticosteroids in the skin could be absorbed in into the bloodstream or pass into the breast milk.. Elocon Ointment should be administered only to a nursing mother only after careful consideration of the benefit/risk relationship.
Drug interactions may alter how your medicines work or may increase your risk for serious side effects. It is important that you share with your doctor a list of all medications you are currently taking before you start using Elocon Ointment. This will give your doctor the opportunity to check for drug interactions in the drug combinations. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without the knowledge and approval of your doctor.
