Etrivex shampoo is a special medicated shampoo that is used in the treatment of scalp psoriasis. Etrivex shampoo has an active ingredient known as ‘Clobetasol Propionate,’ a drug categorized as a steroid or topical corticosteroids.  It helps treat psoriasis of the scalp among adults. The psoriasis of the scalp happens when the skin cells in the scalp are being produced very quickly.

Etrivex shampoo is a topical corticosteroid or steroid-containing an active ingredient known as Clobetasol Propionate. The topical corticosteroids are categorized into various groups depending on their strength. Etrivex shampoo is rendered as very strong corticosteroids. These steroid types help reduce inflammation, itchiness, and redness brought about by psoriasis.

The psoriasis found in the scalp if a result of the too much production of skin cells in the scalp. Etrivex shampoo help treat the scalp and its scalp psoriasis symptoms. The medication treats psoriasis of the scalp in moderate levels among patients.

Psoriasis per se is very painful. It causes redness, inflammation, and itchiness like no other. The scalp psoriasis is no different than regular psoriasis. With the help of Etrivex shampoo, these symptoms and painful consequences are stalled and or reduced affording patients relief from psoriasis.

Etrivex shampoo reduces or obliterates the harmful and debilitating symptoms of scalp psoriasis by treating the inflammation, redness, and persistent itching. If you have scalp psoriasis, Etrivex shampoo can be helpful in reducing symptoms associated with the condition.

Etrivex shampoo is applied very thinly directly on the dry scalp at least once a day. Massage the Etrivex shampoo into the affected area of the skin on the scalp of the head. Leave the shampoo on for approximately 15 minutes without covering the scalp for the entire period. After the 15 minute period, thoroughly rinse of the Etrivex shampoo from the head with water. The head can then be washed with any regular shampoo, as the patient wishes. Dry hair as usual.

Do not use Etrivex shampoo for longer than 4 weeks. The moment the symptoms is reduced or the condition improves; use Etrivex shampoo less frequently than you should or as directed by your physician or dermatologist.

If you find no improvement in your condition, or where your scalp psoriasis becomes worse, talk to your doctor about it. Continued use of the shampoo is advised to control and manage psoriasis of the scalp. But, do not neglect checkups with your doctor or dermatologist for best results.

The medication Etrivex shampoo comes in 500 mcg packaging where one gram of Etrivex shampoo, comes with 500 micrograms of the active ingredient – clobetasol propionate.

The entire treatment must be made for a maximum period of 4 weeks only – no more, no less. The moment positive results are achieved; the use of Etrivex shampoo should be reduced or stopped if advised by your prescriber. If no positive improvements are seen within 4 weeks of treatment, a reassessment of the diagnosis must be made.

Continued treatment with Etrivex shampoo is necessary to manage the scalp psoriasis flare-ups and symptoms, but the application and use must be under close medical supervision.

Like any other medication, Etrivex shampoo can cause some side effects, but not everyone is able to get them.

  • Stinging or a burning sensation in the eyes
  • Irritation in the eye area
  • Glaucoma
  • Ocular tight sensation
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Headache
  • Pain of skin
  • Skin discomfort
  • Skin irritation
  • Skin tightness
  • Allergic contact dermatitis
  • Erythema
  • Rash
  • Scalp Itching
  • Acne
  • Skin Edema
  • Telangiectasia or where the veins under the skin may becoming very noticeable
  • Psoriasis aggravation
  • Skin burning sensation
  • Inflammation of one or more hair follicles
  • Hair loss
  • Dryness of the skin
  • Urticaria
  • Skin atrophy or the thinning of your skin
  • Cushing Syndrome or Endocrine disorders
  • Irritation, itching, urticaria, or apparent visible small vessels or thinning skin around the areas being treated

There is no sufficient data detailing the impact of Etrivex shampoo in pregnant women. There is however some medical studies conducted in animal samples and the result is reproductive toxicity. It is however yet to be established if the medication can be harmful to the human reproductive system.

Unless otherwise stated, do not use Etrivex shampoo while pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or where you fear being pregnant. Ask your doctor for further information about the potential risks.

Topical corticosteroids such as Etrivex shampoo pass in the human’s breast milk. Infants can take the elements of the shampoo in the breast milk of their mothers. However, there is no medical data showing the clinical or health repercussions of Etrivex shampoo. But then again, Etrivex shampoo must not be prescribed to women who are breastfeeding.

Etrivex shampoo has been found to have zero to negligible impact on patient’s ability to drive or operate machineries.
