One of these early changes is an increased need to urinate. This is caused by two things. Firstly, elevated hormone levels increase blood flow to the kidneys, which increases their efficiency. Secondly, as the uterus gets bigger in order to accommodate the growing foetus, more pressure is placed upon the bladder. This, in turn, does not allow the bladder to hold as much urine, leading to the increased need to urinate, especially during the night.<\/p>\n<p>Measures can be taken to alleviate the consistent need to urinate. Reducing the number of drinks consumed in the late evening can be effective in preventing urination throughout the night. Proper hydration via non-alcoholic, caffeine-free drinks throughout the day, is still of paramount importance.<\/p>\n<p>Urinary tract infections (UTI\u2019s) are also a common occurrence during pregnancy. If you experience any blood in your urine or pain whilst you urinate, you may have a UTI and should seek medical advice.
